Phil Malek is a seasoned insurance executive with experience in all aspects of the strategy cycle, from strategic planning to execution and communication of results to the street. Phil also has an extensive transactional background, overseeing numerous mergers & acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
As leader of Sun Life’s U.S. Strategy and Business Development function, Phil works with the leadership teams of each business to determine their strategic direction. He oversees the Project Management team, which drives the execution of key initiatives across the U.S. business. Phil and his team also explore and negotiate investments, partnerships, and M&A opportunities.
Previously, Phil worked in the Sun Life Corporate headquarters in Toronto, where he was vice president, Investor Relations. In that role, he was responsible for managing relationships with Sun Life’s investors and sell side analysts and communicating the company’s strategy and results.
An avid cyclist, Phil competes in both road and mountain bike races. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from Boston University School of Law.
