James R. Slotnick

James is responsible for leading Sun Life U.S.’ state and federal advocacy efforts and for championing the organization’s sustainability initiatives. He leads a Government Relations team that has a demonstrated track record of driving the company’s state and federal employee benefits advocacy priorities, including paid family and medical leave, and plays a key role in securing state government contracts for the country’s largest dental Medicaid administrator, DentaQuest.

In 2023 James became responsible for Sun Life U.S.’ Sustainability strategy, which is focused on expanding Healthcare access. He has been with Sun Life for more than twenty years, holding leadership roles in Distribution, Group Benefits and Legal.

James holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm College, MBA from Suffolk University’s Sawyer School of Management, and JD from Suffolk University Law School. He is an active member of the Massachusetts Bar.

In 2021 James was named a “Top 100 Lobbyist” by the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics and in 2021 and 2023 a “Top Lobbyist” by The Hill.
