David Kleiman

As senior vice president and general counsel, David leads the U.S. legal and government relations teams, advising on legal, regulatory and legislative matters while proactively assessing risk and driving mitigation. He partners closely with business leaders to enhance operations and strengthen governance, oversight, and transparency across an increasingly complex business environment.

A passionate advocate for talent development, David is committed to strengthening the capabilities and growth of his team and the organization. He is a mentor for employees within the global legal and government relations functions and regularly meets colleagues to support career discussions across Sun Life.

Most recently, David was vice president and associate general counsel for Sun Life Canada, leading the products and distribution teams. Prior to that, he was vice president, Corporate Legal, leading several teams supporting Sun Life’s Mergers and Acquisitions, Securities, IT, Intellectual Property, Enterprise Procurement and Global Legal Operations.

David began his career as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at Cassels Brock & Blackwell, LLP, in Toronto. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from York University.
