Women’s financial plans should be built for real life, not a perfect future
Life rarely unfolds in a straight line. Career changes, caregiving responsibilities, health challenges, and the loss of loved ones can all reshape financial priorities and timelines. For many women, these experiences are not exceptions—they are part of life.
Sun Life’s latest research found that nearly half (45%) of women have experienced a major life event in the past two years, including menopause, caregiving responsibilities, the loss of a loved one, or a significant health challenge. These moments can have a profound impact on financial goals, retirement timelines, and day-to-day financial decisions.
We spoke with Rowena Chan, President, Sun Life Financial Distributors (Canada) Inc. and Senior Vice-President, Retail Advice & Solutions, Sun Life Canada, about what the findings reveal and why flexible financial planning matters more than ever.
