Sun Life named one of the 2024 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World

For the 15th consecutive year, Sun Life has earned a spot on the . We ranked first among insurance companies in Canada and represented one of only 12  Canadian companies across all sectors.

The Global 100 tracks the sustainability performance of publicly-traded companies with over US$1 billion in gross revenue. It uses publicly disclosed data on up to 25 KPIs covering resource management, employee management, financial management, sustainable revenue  and supplier performance.

Sun Life named one of Canada’s 2023 Best 50 Corporate Citizens

Corporate Knights has included Sun Life on its list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada for the 18th time. The 2023 edition places Sun Life 2nd among Canadian insurance industry peers and 4th among 239 global industry peers.  This recognition highlights our commitment to drive meaningful, positive impact for our Clients, society and the environment every day. Sun Life has appeared on the annual ranking 18 of the 22 years since its inception.

Sun Life listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index

In 2023, for the 18th consecutive year, Sun Life was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America). The DJSI North America tracks the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance of the top 20% of the 600 largest Canadian and U.S. companies that are sustainability leaders. Sun Life is one of only eight North American insurers to be included in the 2023 DJSI. This recognition reflects Sun Life’s commitment to being sustainability-driven in everything we do.

The Global 100 tracks the sustainability performance of publicly-traded companies with over US$1 billion in gross revenue. Rowena Chan named a winner of Insurance Business Canada’s 2022 Elite Women Award

Sun Life remains No. 1 in Life Insurance sector

Sun Life retains the number one spot as the country’s premier life insurance company in the Philippines. According to the latest report from the Insurance Commission (IC), Sun Life posted a premium income of PhP39.27 Billion, outperforming its closest contender by a record PhP8 Billion in total premiums. This is the 10th straight year that Sun Life has maintained its leadership in the industry.

Hong Kong Wealth & Pensions business won 42 awards at the BENCHMARK MPF of the Year Awards, recognizing the excellent service and innovative solutions that have made Sun Life a top 3 MPF provider in the industry.

Sun Life is among the Best Workplaces™ for Women in Canada, by Great Place to Work®.

The list was determined using scores from female employees on the globally recognized Trust Index® Survey. To be considered for the list, at least 90% of employees must agree that people are treated fairly, regardless of their gender.

Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality

For the 14th consecutive year, Sun Life U.S. has earned a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation Corporate Equity Index. Sun Life has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and this recognition celebrates the actions taken to ensure greater equity for LGBTQ+ employees and their families.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equity Index is a U.S.-based national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer employees. 

Sun Life earns spot on Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

For the 5th consecutive year, Sun Life has been named to the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index which recognizes organizations that have made strong commitments to gender, equality, employee policies, external community support and engagement and gender-conscious product offerings.

The Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index tracks the performance of public companies who disclose their efforts to support gender equality through policy development, representation, and transparency.

In 2021, for the 16th consecutive year, Sun Life was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI). The DJSI tracks the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance of the world’s leading sustainability-driven companies. Sun Life is one of only seven North American insurers to be included in the 2021 DJSI.

Sun Life named one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens

Corporate Knights has once again included Sun Life on its list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada. The 2022 edition places Sun Life 21st overall, driven in part by strong scores on executive gender diversity, board racial diversity and sustainability linked to executive pay. Sun Life has appeared on the annual ranking 17 of the 21 years since its inception.

Sun Life Hong Kong received multiple industry accolades including Best Company for Women by the American Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, and the Most Respected Organizations Award by the Hong Kong Management Association.

The list, compiled by the Boston Globe, recognizes the top workplaces in the state of Massachusetts as voted on by employees. Using employee opinions on the company direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits and engagement. 

Rowena Chan named Canada’s Leader of Change

Rowena Chan, President, Sun Life Financial Distributors (Canada) Inc. and SVP Distribution & Insurance Solutions has been named one of 25 Leaders of Change by Insurance Business Magazine.

Rowena’s dedication to promoting diversity, equity & inclusion, her passion for driving transformational change in the insurance industry, and her volunteerism both at work and in the community landed her a place on the inaugural list. 

Jacques Goulet named CEO of the Year – Large Business category

Les Affaires business magazine named Jacques Goulet, President, Sun Life Canada as the CEO of the Year – Large Business category. Jacques was recognized as an inspiring leader and champion for workplace mental health and well-being.

Alice Thomas named among Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women

The Women’s Executive Network (WXN) named Alice Thomas, Chief Architect and Digital Technology Officer, Sun Life, as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the Science and Technology category.

The Top 100 Award recognizes exceptional women leaders contributing to the advancement of the societal and professional landscape for future generations. 

Leonardo Dionicio named 2022 top Hispanic professional in IT by HITEC

For the second consecutive year, Leonardo Dionicio, VP, Technology Foundation, Sun Life U.S. has been named to the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) 100, an annual list of the most influential and notable Hispanic professionals in the technology industry.

The HITEC 100 celebrates the leadership and achievements of top Hispanic IT professionals based on their accomplishments, mentoring and professional development activities.
