For the 12th consecutive year, Sun Life has been recognized by Corporate Knights as one of the world’s 100 most sustainable corporations. Corporate Knights is a Toronto-based media and investment research firm with one of largest circulating magazines focused on business, society and clean capitalism.
Corporate Knights assessed over 8,000 companies with more than US$1 billion in revenues, narrowing it down to the top 100 performers. Organizations were ranked on several new key performance indicators (KPIs) as a result of the ongoing climate crisis and social concerns raised by COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter. These new KPI’s include paid sick leave, clean investments, and executive and board racial diversity. Inclusion in this ranking is testament to Sun Life’s rigorous sustainability practices pertaining to carbon productivity, clean revenue and board gender diversity.

Corporate Knights has once again included Sun Life on its list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada. The 2020 edition places Sun Life 19th overall. Sun Life has appeared on the annual ranking 15 of the 19 years since its inception.

In 2020, for the 15th consecutive year, Sun Life was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI). The DJSI tracks the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance of the world’s leading sustainability-driven companies. Sun Life is the only Canadian insurance company and one of only three in North America to make S&P’s Sustainability Yearbook 2021, a recognition given to companies that perform within the top 15% of their industry.
For the 10th year in a row, Sun Life Financial was voted as “Most Trusted BrandTM of Life Insurance Company,” according to the 2019 Reader’s Digest Trusted BrandTM Survey in Canada. Sun Life has been a winner in this category since the award’s inception. Sun Life was also voted as “Most Trusted BrandTM of Health and Dental Insurance Company in 2019.”
The Ipsos Canada poll, conducted on behalf of Reader’s Digest, asked more than 4,000 Canadians to name the brand they trust most in 32 product categories.

The latest honour for Sun Life Philippines CEO and Country Head, Riza Mantaring, is the 2017 Asia Talent Management Award, presented as part of the Asia Business Leader Awards organized by global business news network CNBC. Riza was recognized for her commitment to employee development, from highly successful leadership development programs to hands-on mentoring of high-potential employees in the Philippines where Sun Life is the longest-standing and one of the largest life insurance company.

In the first Canadian life insurance digital sales functionality benchmark by influential, research and advisory firm Forrester Research, Sun Life proudly took the top spot. Our score of 75/100 outperformed the industry average score of 47/100, thanks to our ability to support the needs of both Clients who prefer to buy online and Clients who prefer to work with an advisor.
Forrester rated Sunlife.ca's Life insurance experience using 35 criteria on desktop, tablet and mobile, and categorized the results in 3 stages: discover, explore and buy. We achieved a near-perfect score at the discover stage, where we help Clients think through their life insurance needs, and we earned the top score for our ability to simplify the sales process.
Sun Life investment subsidiary MFS Investment Management won top honours in Barron's 2015 ranking of Top Mutual Fund Families, placing 1st for 5-year performance. It ranked 2nd for 10-year performance and 5th for 1-year performance. It is the 8th consecutive year that Barron's has recognized MFS.
Sun Life was ranked #1 in the Globe and Mail Report on Business' 2015 Board Games. The report examined the boards of directors of 234 companies and income trusts in the S&P/TSX composite index as of September 1, 2015 to assess the quality of their governance practices. The assessment and scores are based on questions about board composition, including diversity policies and disclosure of term limits for directors, shareholding and compensation, shareholder rights and disclosure.
