Mary De Paoli

Mary De Paoli is Executive Vice-President, Public & Corporate Affairs and Chief Marketing Officer. Ms. De Paoli assumed this role in 2012 and is responsible for Sun Life Financial’s brand, digital, marketing and public and corporate affairs functions globally, and for leading the Company’s focus on its customers across its businesses.
Ms. De Paoli joined Sun Life in 1999 and has a significant background in marketing, customer and corporate activities and in leading pension and retirement services businesses. She headed Sun Life’s brand-building, digital media and other marketing programs in her previous role as Senior Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer and, prior to that, managed the Company’s Group Retirement Services division, which rose to the number one market position in Canada. During this time she was named as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40TM for 2002.
In her earlier career, Ms. De Paoli was a business journalist, working at the Washington bureau of CNN and as Managing Editor of Canada’s Benefits & Pensions Monitor magazine. She also authored The New Imperative: The Plan Sponsor’s Guide to Education and Communication.
Ms. De Paoli is on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance and the Audit Bureau of Circulations Canadian Buyers’ Advisory Committee. In 2012, Ms. De Paoli was named the Marketer of the Year by Strategy magazine.
Ms. De Paoli holds a post-graduate degree in Journalism and Communications from the American University in Washington D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Western Ontario.
