Sun Life dental plans promote better oral health which can lead to better overall health. Our flexible plan options allow employers and members to choose a plan that meets their needs.  Plans include fully insured PPO plans, prepaid or DHMO plans, Administrative Service Only (ASO)1 plans and for those not associated with a employer plan, an individual prepaid or DHMO plan1.

  • PPO dental plans allow members to use any licensed dentist they choose
  • One of the largest national dental PPOs in the U.S.—over 130,000 unique providers nationwide2,3—means members who use a participating dentist can stretch their dental benefits further
  • Active, Passive or Maximum Allowable Charge (MAC) plans available
  • Dual-choice and triple-choice options where prepaid or DHMO plans are available—combines a PPO and a prepaid or DHMO plan to give members additional plan options to consider
  • Employer-paid and voluntary plan options
  • ASO options are available for employers with more that 50 employees
  • High/Low plan options are available for employers with more than 20 employees 

Our traditional fully-insured PPO dental plans include access to our large nationwide network of dentists1. Plan options can include Maximum Allowable Charge plans, also known as MAC plans, Active plans and Passive plans. All plans include Lifetime of Smiles®, our dental health program dedicated to improving the smiles of our members for a lifetime! The program includes:

  • Brush biopsies for early detection of oral cancer.
  • Genetic testing to help identify individuals who are at genetic risk for gum disease.5
  • Periochips to control bacteria and reduce the size of periodontal pockets.5,6
  • Online Dental Health Center that offers members information on preventive dental care.

Prepaid/DHMO plans give members access to a range of dental services
from in-network providers. Plans offer:

  • Fixed copayment schedule so you know costs up front
  • No deductibles, maximums or waiting periods
  • Preventive services, like cleanings, at low or no cost
  • Specialist services, such as orthodontia, are available at discounted rates

This benefit may be added to our dental insurance plans. The vision discount plan offers discounts on exams and the purchase of prescription eyewear provided by in-network eye care providers. Fees are automatically reduced at the time of service – no claim forms to fill out!

We currently offer these plans in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Gerogia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
