Supporting our communities

We are here for our community partners

We are here for our community partners

Here in the US, numerous charitable organizations across the country have been on the frontlines of the pandemic. Whether its hospitals, community health centers, food banks, elder care services and more, the response to this crisis by our community members has been nothing short of incredible. As an employee benefits provider, we recognize the importance of healthy communities and want to do our part to support those organizations who are providing vital services to those in need.

As the pressures of the pandemic continue, in 2021 Sun Life announced an additional $1 million CAD to help ongoing global COVID-19 relief efforts and address health inequities. This support is in addition to Sun Life's $1 million CAD donation announced in March 2020. Those funds focused on healthcare, elder care and addressing food insecurity needs in markets where Sun Life operates: Asia, Canada and the United States. In 2021, Sun Life’s support focused on two main areas: food insecurity and mental health.

In the U.S., Sun Life has made grants to the following organizations:

National

  • World Central Kitchen
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness

Boston, MA

  • United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley
  • Greater Boston Food Bank
  • Boston Health Center for the Homeless

Portland, ME

  • Preble Street
  • United Way of Southern Maine

Windsor, CT

  • Foodshare
  • United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut

Kansas City, MO

  • Harvesters
  • United Way of Greater Kansas City/Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

Because we also have staff located outside of the United States that supports Sun Life U.S., we will also be making donations to the following:

Waterford, Ireland

  • Pieta House
  • Helping Hand Waterford

Lethbridge, Canada

  • Lethbridge Food Bank
  • Woods Homes

Portsmouth, NH

  • Gather

In addition to these grants, Sun Life continues to match employee contributions to local causes that they feel passionately about. We also understand that many community fundraising events have had to be postponed or have gone virtual – we’re still encouraging employees to participate in these events virtually where feasible and supporting their efforts through our You Give We Give employee giving program.
