WELLESLEY, MA, (December 9, 2016) – This week the Human Rights Campaign announced its 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. For the ninth consecutive year, Sun Life scored 100%.

“We are so excited to see how many companies are showing commitment to workplace inclusion and equality,” said Emily Schur, Vice President of Human Resources for Sun Life Financial. “In our current climate there is still much work to be done in achieving true workplace equality for members of the LGBTQ community. At Sun Life we have a strong company-driven diversity agenda, as well as active employee participation in our Inclusion Networks. Through engagement, discussion, and activities, we take every opportunity to strengthen and reinforce the notion that a healthy workforce must include commitment to equality.”

Sun Life’s GLOBE (Gay, Lesbian, Others Building Equality) Inclusion Network engages in discussion and educational sessions on relevant issues, as well as community activities. Most recently, GLAD’s Director of the Transgender Rights Project, Jennifer Levi, came to Sun Life to address employees on workplace issues and evolving legislation for the transgender community.

The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
