Celtics teams up with Sun Life Financial and YMCA to promote fun and easy steps to help Greater Boston youth maintain healthy and active lifestyles
BOSTON (January 13, 2015) – The Boston Celtics and Sun Life Financial today announced the tip-off of “Fit to Win”, a program aimed at improving the health and well-being of young people throughout the city of Boston, as well as promoting diabetes education. Throughout the program, children in grades 3-6 will participate in daily workouts, and be encouraged to maintain a nutritious diet and make healthy lifestyle choices.
“We are proud to launch our Fit to Win program, which teaches children fun and easy steps for maintaining an active lifestyle,” Celtics Team President Rich Gotham said. “Initiatives such as these not only create awareness, but put into action that proper nutrition and exercise can lead to better health and wellness in our communities.”
In conjunction with NBA Fit Week, the program will debut on Thursday, January 22, at the Menino YMCA in Hyde Park, and will continue at two other Greater Boston YMCA sites in the spring and summer. The program features a series of events at each YMCA over the course of four weeks. Starting with “Draft Day”, participants will sign Fit to Win contracts and learn how their participation could earn them Celtics-themed prizes and event opportunities for the YMCA. Participants will be awarded prizes for each week the YMCA site meets their fitness and health goals. Each four-week session culminates with a “Championship Event” celebration to recognize the hard work and dedication put into completing the program.
“Sun Life is committed to our continued efforts to promote healthy living and diabetes awareness through our ongoing partnership with the Boston Celtics,” says Dan Fishbein, President, Sun Life Financial U.S. “We are excited to support the YMCA of Greater Boston with the Fit to Win program, which will educate and empower children to adopt healthy lifestyle habits.”
The Fit to Win program is an extension of the season-long diabetes prevention initiative launched in November with the #SunLifeDunkforDiabetes campaign and an extension of Sun Life’s ongoing commitment to inform Americans about the risk factors and health consequences associated with the disease.
