With few options for summer child care, Sun Life U.S. partners with Boston Children’s Museum on virtual summer program for employees’ kids
Boston, Mass.; Wellesley, Mass.—July 13, 2020 — In the absence of most summer camp and daycare options, Boston Children’s Museum and Sun Life have partnered to develop a virtual play and learning experience for Sun Life U.S. employees and their children, including those located in Ireland and Canada. The program, called Explore It, starts this week and uses online programming to get kids offline with creative, fun and educational activities to do at home.

Roux Institute adds Sun Life as its 11th corporate partner
July 8, 2020 – The Roux Institute at Northeastern University is partnering with Sun Life U.S., one of the largest group benefits providers in the country. Sun Life becomes the 11th corporate partner of the institute, which will open in Portland, Maine in September as an innovation hub for research and graduate education in technology and data science.

Cost of cancer continues to rise as new drugs come to market and existing drugs expand treatment options
WELLESLEY, Mass. – (June 25, 2020) – Cancer once again tops the list of the ten costliest medical conditions in Sun Life’s 2020 High-cost claims and injectable drug trends report, which offers self-funded employers key insights into the healthcare and medical trends that drive high-cost claims. Conditions such as renal failure, transplants, and congenital anomalies (conditions present at birth) were also high on the list. Cancer holds the top six positions on the list of the 20 highest-cost drugs, and the average cost for cancer drugs was over $76,000 per person in 2019.

Sun Life and American Diabetes Association® educate advocates on diabetes management during COVID-19 at virtual Call to Congress
ARLINGTON, Va.; WELLESLEY, Mass. – (June 1, 2020) – With the diabetes community at greater risk for complications during the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) and Sun Life partnered to reinvent this year’s annual Call to Congress to educate advocates on COVID-19 and diabetes, and how to support people with diabetes during the pandemic. Usually an in-person gathering of ADA Advocates on Capitol Hill, the recent virtual town hall event informed and engaged the diabetes advocate community about legislative goals specific to the COVID-19 pandemic, calling on Congress to implement a temporary zero-dollar copay for insulin and increase access to COVID-19 testing for underserved minority communities.

Sun Life scores 100% for LGBTQ workplace equality for 12th consecutive year
WELLESLEY, Mass. (January 27, 2020) – Sun Life U.S. has been named a “Best Place to Work” for LGBTQ equality by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, receiving a 100% score for the 12th straight year. The index is a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. Sun Life has continued strong support of LGBTQ and all diversity groups through the company’s inclusion networks.
