SunExcel® transplant-vendors access program

SLPC 24021 10/17 (exp. 10/19)

SunExcel® gives employers a choice among transplant vendors with over 150 Centers of Excellence facilities that specialize in solid organ, stem cell, or bone marrow transplants.

How does it work?

To use SunExcel, all you or the Third Party Administrator (TPA) have to do is call a Sun Life Nurse Consultant. It's a voluntary program, so you choose when to call. We have negotiated preferred pricing with Centers of Excellence transplant facilities that can often lower costs by 30% to 40%, depending on the facility.

When a Centers of Excellence transplant facility is used, we will also

  • Lower the employer's Specific deductible
  • Reimburse the employer for the patient's out-of-pocket costs, such as co-payments, deductibles, and travel and housing costs
  • Pay the Centers of Excellence facility access fee

The high cost of transplants

The high cost of transplants

According to research we conducted in 2015, transplants produced $41 million in stop-loss claims payments.

Overall, the number of heart, kidney, and lung transplants have remained relatively consistent. Bone marrow/stem cell transplants, however, showed a marked increase of 177%. This could be the beginning of a new trend—and SunExcel can help you manage those costs.
