Sun Life Financial Expands Marketing Group; Names Bill Webster Vice President, Brand Strategy and Development Leader

WELLESLEY, Mass. (July 23, 2009) - The U.S. division of Sun Life Financial Inc. (NYSE:SLF, TSX:SLF) today announced that Bill Webster has been named Vice President, Brand Strategy and Development Leader. Webster will lead the development and execution of advertising strategies, brand management and web initiatives across all lines of business. The creation of this new role is part of Sun Life's commitment to building its brand presence in the U.S.

"His role as Brand Strategy and Development Leader is critical as we look to increase Sun Life's brand awareness among distributors and consumers in the U.S."

Webster previously worked at MetLife, Inc. where he served as Vice President, Global Brand and Marketing Services. An accomplished marketing professional, Webster has driven numerous successful integrated marketing campaigns, and was involved with creating MetLife's well-known "The IF in Life" advertising campaign. Prior to MetLife, Webster was Senior Vice President with McCann-Erickson. He started his career with Saatchi & Saatchi and has also worked for EuroRSCG and UniWorld Group. Webster graduated from Williams College where he earned his BA in Political Economy.
