Our organization
Within our organization there are several different legal entities, each focused on specific areas of expertise. But while we may go by different names, we live by one driving principle—to help people and companies live better and sleep easier.
Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada
Since 1895, this wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Life Financial Service Company of Canada Inc. has served as the company’s main insurance company in North America.
- What it provides: group and individual life insurance, group disability, medical stop-loss insurance
- Where it operates: licensed in 49 states (all except for the State of New York), the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico
Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.)
This wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Sun Life Financial, Inc. is the parent company for several other Sun Life Financial subsidiaries in the U.S.
- What it provides: variable and fixed annuities and variable universal life insurance
- Where it operates: licensed in 49 states (except for the State of New York), the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico
- Periodic reports filed with the SEC in interactive data format (XBLR) and PDF format
Sun Life Insurance and Annuity Company of New York
Incorporated in 1983 and headquartered in New York City, this wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.), meets the group benefit needs of businesses as well as the retirement needs of individuals in the State of New York.
- What it provides: group and individual life, group disability and medical stop-loss insurance, policies as well as individual variable and fixed annuity contracts
- Where it operates: New York
Sun Life Financial Distributors, Inc.
This is the FINRA-registered sales and marketing organization for Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.)
- What it distributes: variable annuities and variable universal life
- Where it operates: all across the U.S.
Sun Capital Advisers LLC
An SEC-registered investment adviser and wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Life Financial Inc.
- What it provides: investment management of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.) general account assets and investment advisory services to Sun Capital Advisers Trust
- Where it operates: all across the U.S.
