Neil Haynes is Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer for Sun Life Financial U.S. In this role, Neil is responsible for all financial reporting, capital, profitability management, planning and related functions for Sun Life’s U.S. business group. He was appointed to this role in August 2014.
Prior to his current role, Neil was Senior Vice President, Finance where he was responsible for Sun Life Financial’s enterprise-wide financial reporting and planning functions including accountability for accounting, investment finance, financial controls activities, and purview over Sun Life’s strategic and business planning process.
Neil began his career with The Mutual Group in 1980 where he held a number of positions in individual insurance, investments and corporate finance, including vice president roles heading treasury management and corporate development and strategy. The company demutualized, becoming Clarica, which was acquired by Sun Life Financial in 2002.
Neil has held senior roles in Sun Life’s corporate and business operations. He was seconded in 2002 to SLF Asia where he supported strategic initiatives, and became Vice President, Strategy Development in the Corporate Office in 2003. In 2005, he assumed responsibility for the finance and actuarial functions in SLF U.K. He was then appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for SLF Canada in 2008, responsible for the integrity and quality of the Canadian operations’ financial management activities and its business and strategic planning.
Neil is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo.
